Acrylic block windows are much more than a substitute for glass block. The light weight, economy, and energy efficiency of acrylic blocks have expanded the market for the "glass block look" in residential construction. Builders can install this block window themselves, right along with their operable windows. Window distributors can sell the acrylic block window as part of the window and door package, an opening previously sold through glass block masonry channels.
By making the switch to acrylic block, which is 75% lighter, the builder eliminates the expensive support framing and anchoring that is required by glass block. Because acrylic blocks are lighter, the builder is free of the limited shapes and size restrictions of glass block, especially in upstairs and cathedral ceiling applications, where support framing becomes complex and expensive. Now the builder can eliminate one subcontractor and the paperwork and insurance that goes along with him.
Building and Construction Contractors is a licenced distributor of US Block windows in California.
